Full Color 7″ Multi Touch Display Kindle Fire Review – All It’s Cracked Up to Be?
The Full Color 7″ multi touch display Kindle Fire has gotten a lot of press lately and sales have been going through the roof, especially this holiday season. Our question was, “Is it worth the hype?”

- E-reader not a Computer – Well, right off the bat, if you are buying this thinking that it is an Ipad killer think again. This is an e-reader. That is what it is designed to be. You can read books on it, and watch videos and we love how light it is. You can take this anywhere and be able to read books and watch videos. That said it is not a computer. If you are thinking of using this to do work, think again.
- Fantastic Price – On the bright side, because it is an e-reader and video watching device, it is being priced at a ridiculously low price. I mean a mere fraction of what an ipad or table would cost. The company is actually taking a loss on this product in the hopes of selling more ebooks and videos. There loss is definitely your gain here.
- Good Quality – The glass on it is highly damage resistant. Can it be cracked? Yes but it would take a lot of abuse for that to happen.
- Connectivity – You can upload your own content through the usb or you can stream it with a wi-fi connection.
- Amazon Cloud – You get 5 free gigs of space to store books, and videos. Any music that you buy is automatically stored, as well, and does not count toward that 5 free gigs. If you need more space you can upgrade your account for about a dollar a gig – very reasonable.
- The Multi touch display – this is a nice feature with a few glitches. It is not as intuitive as the ipad but they may be fixing in their update.
- As a Comic Book Reader – I was pleasantly surprised at how great comics look on the Kindle Fire. My initial concern was that 7″ would not be big enough to truly view the comics properly but this ended up not being a problem.
- As a Web Browser – You can surf the net with this device. Depending on your connection it can be a bit slow but not slow enough to be a real issue.
- Amazon MP3/Video – All music is non-proprietary which means that you will continue to own it as use it and transfer it between devices without issue. I love this freedom and am sure you will too. As for watching videos, I highly recommend you sign up for their Prime service . There are a ton of free ones included in your membership and the ones that you do buy stream extremely well. Also any physical products that you buy you get within two days. It is a wonderful program.
